INDIANOLA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCES “BUY IT IN INDIANOLA”
– A HISTORICALLY INSPIRED SHOP LOCAL EVENT
(INDIANOLA, IOWA) – In the month of April, The Indianola Chamber of Commerce is celebrating a new Shop Local campaign, “Buy It In Indianola”, inspired by the slogan used by the early Chamber of Commerce (Indianola Commercial Club) in 1915. This campaign will be highlighting our community’s rich history in supporting local businesses leading into a Shop Local event on Saturday, April 29th.
“Our early citizens in this community recognized the importance of supporting local business and the benefits that it would bring to them personally, and to the community,’ said Amanda Zwanziger, President and CEO of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce. “The “Buy It In Indianola” campaign will demonstrate the historical significance buying local has had on our community and how it still impacts us today.”
The campaign isn’t just based on a slogan from days past but will highlight the historical archives from the efforts of the early Chamber as demonstrated in an advertisement from November 18, 1915 in the Indianola, Iowa, Herald:

TOWN you HELP YOURSELF“
“I’ve been utterly fascinated by the archives we’ve unearthed and cannot wait to share them with the community,” said Zwanziger, “The mission of coming together as a community to support local businesses, and the businesses coming together to support the community, is the very reason our Chamber of Commerce exists today. And the fruits of their efforts over 100 years ago are the reason that we get to enjoy the historic downtown we treasure today. And this demonstrated progress gives great reason to continue to support the local merchant today. Imagine the impact that each and every one of us can have on the future of our community. Shopping local isn’t just an act of kindness, it’s an investment in the future of our community.
The Indianola Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Indianola Downtown Merchants, want to invite people to support the amazing local shops, restaurants, breweries, wineries and businesses that Indianola has to offer on April 29th and throughout the year.
Zwanziger encouraged, “In the words of the early Chamber, ‘Put your shoulder to the wheel in upbuilding of this town.’ Buy it in Indianola!”
